Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus” is one of the most famous Gothic novels of all time. When given the assignment to produce my own version in a Publishing course I took in Spring 2017, I chose to focus on a sense of dark romanticism and the great loneliness of Frankensteins monster as concept for the book I produced, as well as putting Mary Shelley’s story into context with Maya Angelou’s poem ‘Alone’.
This concept led to a simple and classic design, held in black in white, with just minor illustrations to further emphasise loneliness, singularity and a sense of beauty present in classic gothic horror stories.
